“San Luis Obispo Mission” Box

“I’m Done” Box

“Wish” Box

Silver • Copper • Fabricated

Here are three more boxes at the request of Lon!

The first box is my “San Luis Obispo Mission” box. This box was inspired by all the great mission churches you see on the California’s Historic Mission Trail. I still need to set a 3mm fire citrine gemstone into the silver cross on top so this box is not quite officially done. This box stands about 2 1/4″ tall.

The second box is my “I’m Done” box. I probably don’t need to go into the inspiration behind this one. We all get this one right? When your done, your done. This box stands about 3″ tall.

The third box is my “Wish” box. The wish box holds birthday candles and the idea is that you can take out a candle at any time and make a wish. It doesn’t need to be your birthday to make a wish anymore. Now there is no pressure from the peanut gallery to come up with a wish quickly and to blow out the candle. How can you think straight enough to come up with a good wish when people are singing “Happy Birthday” anyway? I always feel pressured in this situation. With this box you can take your time and wish in private and in peace. I made two of these and gave them as birthday gifts, which was originally against the rules. I am glad I gave these as gifts but, if I keep that up I will never reach my goal of making 100 boxes. I have reinstated that rule and plan (at least for now) to stick with it. This box stands about 3 1/4″ tall.

I will post more box photos soon! I have several in the works. Thanks to everyone for their support with my 100 box project!

I decided to set a goal for myself to make 100 of these small boxes. Shown here are three of them. One is the Helvetica box, one the Islamic spire temple box and one is the 26 Letters box. I have about 12 of the boxes done or almost done and only 88 to go! The ideas for the boxes can come at anytime and for any reason. I am inspired by architecture, emotions, design, texture, typography and life. The boxes range in size but are very small — some you can fit pennies, others not. My plan is to have a show when all the boxes are done. One reason for setting this goal is to maintain and improve my metalsmithing skills and craftsmanship. I will post more pictures as new boxes get made so stay tuned!

Also if you have an idea for a box I would love to hear it!

These are TINY boxes. The small one only measures 1″ from the bottom to the top of the little silver cast poppy seed pod. (The actual box part is too small to hold a penny.) I put little precious stones in it. The bigger box with the silver blackberry atop measures 1.5″ tall. I have to give credit to this crazy, wild and really sweet guy (Hi Josiah!) I took classes with a couple of years ago for these. He made a little box like this and I couldn’t resist making one because I LOVE ALL THINGS SMALL. Then I put little silver box-toppers on them to make them easy to get open. At the time I was determined to make one hundred of these boxes and then have a show called, “One Hundred Boxes.” But so far I only have these two. Two down, ninety-eight to go. These aren’t for sale because my friend Inda said she might want to buy them if I ever sold them. I am still on the fence about letting them go.
